About the Tournament

We hold the Roke Volleyball Open Tournament on the first weekend in September every year. Every need catered for with bar, barbecue and bacon butties!

Tournament Format

The tournament is usually split into two halves, and you can enter either the Competitive or the Recreational competition. Each half will be run using an 'open' format, with no restriction on the gender of players. Teams will be placed into pools for the morning session and you will play everyone in your pool.

There will then be a round of cross-over matches to decide which division each team plays in for the afternoon matches.

The division matches will take place in the afternoon, and will follow a knock-out format to the finals. If the schedule permits, then there will also be play-off matches for 3rd and 4th place in each division.

Note: If we get an odd numebr of teams, then the afternoon's lowest division will follow a different format (dependent on the number of teams).

Where is it?

The tournament takes place at Hursley House, in Hursley, just south of Winchester on the A3090. The postcode for your satnavs is 'SO21 2JN' (map below).

We run a BBQ and a cake stall throughtout the day. There is also a clubhouse on site which will be serving food and drink.

The clubhouse has toilets, changing rooms and showers.

The volleyball courts are on the outfield of the cricket pitch, so the ground is usually flat and level.

Site rules

If you're coming from Winchester then use the north entrance (with the big IBM sign). Otherwise use the south entrance (at the traffic lights, with a large oak tree surrounded by a stone bench).

If you're coming from further away than Southampton, then the best route is the M3, exiting at Junction 12 and going through Otterbourne. Follow the signs for 'Hursley'. Once on site, follow the signs for 'South carpark'. There will be yellow 'Volleyball' signs for you to follow too!

Or check the venue out on Google Maps.

Tournament History

The Roke tournament has been running for at least 20 years, originally being held at Roke Manor near Romsey in Hampshire. In 2013 we moved to Hursley, just south of Winchester, which gave us more space to grow the tournament while maintaining the high level of facilities.
